Chemical Explosion Hits Agege, Lagos

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed a chemical explosion at 291 Old Abeokuta Motor Road, opposite Vetland Secondary School in the Agege area of the state.

According to our source, the explosion occurred around 6pm on Friday, injuring at least one person seriously.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday.

She explained that the Agege Fire and Rescue Crew swiftly brought the situation under control after receiving the report. The crew extinguished the fire caused by the explosion of several kegs containing unknown chemicals, which had been stored in an open, fenced area.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the ownership and the nature of the chemicals involved. Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion was triggered by heat radiation due to the chemicals being exposed to direct sunlight without protection.

The injured woman is currently receiving treatment for first-degree burns, and she is responding well to treatment.
